Inclusivity Statement

As Shorecrest looks to the future, we are continuously assessing the needs of our community in terms of inclusivity and diversity. Currently, there is a committee comprising staff, faculty, students and parents working to update our inclusivity statement to make sure it highlights our strengths, defines our challenges, and integrates the latest best practices for independent schools.

As an independent, nondenominational institution, Shorecrest Preparatory School is committed to the process of creating and sustaining an equitable and just community.

The Board of Trustees at Shorecrest Preparatory School, in keeping with the school’s mission and traditions, charges the Headmaster to ensure that all school activities are respectful of the small and increasingly diverse community at our school.

The following principles are considered the foundations of a just and equitable school community at Shorecrest.
  • At Shorecrest, we respect, affirm and defend the dignity of each member of the community.
  • At Shorecrest, we are committed to providing and promoting a bias free environment by addressing issues of equity and justice in the curriculum, programs, assessment and pedagogy.
  • At Shorecrest, we encourage the exchange of moral and spiritual discourse.
  • At Shorecrest, we do not permit activities that, whether intentionally or otherwise, segregate members of our community unless the separation serves developmental, educational or safety needs of our students.
  • At Shorecrest, we welcome all individuals, regardless of age, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, national or ethnic origin.
  • At Shorecrest, we are committed to supporting the ongoing education of our Board, parents and personnel as part of the process of creating and maintaining an equitable and just community.
