Helping the Community – Locally and Globally in the 2005-2006 School Year

Scores of Shorecrest students set out to make a difference in the community, some through school-organized activities and others on their own.  Their work impacted people young and old both locally and globally as well as the environment and animals.

Early Childhood/Lower Division

  • Early Childhood students visited the elderly and greeted them with hand-made cards and special songs.
  • Junior Kindergarteners donated dog and cat food to SPCA in conjunction with their annual Pet Parade.
  • Two kindergarteners planted sea oats to help stabilize the sand dunes and protect Ft. DeSoto beaches with Friends of Fort DeSoto and Tampa Bay Watch.
  • Fourth grade students created artwork that was used to make placemats for the St. Petersburg Free Clinic’s annual Hunger Banquet fundraising event.Fourth graders held a yard sale to benefit the Suncoast Children's Dream Fund.
  • For the past year, Lower Division students have been recycling paper to contribute towards helping preserve our natural environment. From February 2005 to September 2006, we have recycled 6680 pounds or over 3 tons of mixed office paper. Every classroom has approached recycling efforts in their unique way, and students have become enthusiastic to help save our planet in other ways, as well.
