General Information

Shorecrest Preparatory School welcomes applications from local, regional, national, and international candidates. As an independent college preparatory school committed to challenging and supporting each individual student, Shorecrest seeks people with talent, dedication, intelligence, and professionalism. The School seeks diversity in its faculty and administration, just as it does in its student body.

Shorecrest is accredited by the Florida Council of Independent Schools, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the Florida Kindergarten Council, and the National Association of Educators of Young Children. Shorecrest is a member of the Southern Association of Independent Schools and the National Association of Independent Schools. State certification is not required for employment.

Initial Inquiry and Application

Written inquiries are welcome throughout the year. The most effective time to inquire for the following school year, however, is between February 15th and May 15th. It is during this time period that most openings become known and when the School is most active in its recruitment and hiring. Inquiries should be addressed as follows: Michael A. Murphy, Headmaster, Shorecrest Preparatory School, 5101 First St. NE, St. Petersburg, FL 33703. A letter, preferably with a resume, is sufficient as an initial inquiry.

An Application for Employment may be obtained by writing or calling the School. Information on the Application is subject to verification, and applicants are subject to background checks. Letters of recommendation, college transcripts, and other formal documentation are accepted but they are not necessary at this early stage. These will be requested by the School as needed. If you are interested in being placed on a substitute teacher list, please note this on the Application.

Shorecrest's receipt of your completed Application is taken as evidence of your continued interest in employment at the School.

The Application Process

Shorecrest receives a relatively large number of inquiries; it attempts to respond promptly in writing or via e-mail to all candidates. Since some positions require more extensive review, this process may take some time. If a prolonged period of time goes by without communication from the School, do not hesitate to write or call for information about the status of your application.

Applications received will be considered for a two year period: the school year for which they are received and the following year.

Salary and Benefits

Shorecrest's salary and benefits are regionally competitive. The salary for a given position is set within the School's overall salary schedule with additional consideration for advanced degrees and supplemental responsibilities. The benefits package includes group medical and dental insurance, life insurance, and a pension/savings program through TIAA/CREF. There is also a tuition remission for faculty children.

Shorecrest is committed to the ongoing professional development of its faculty, and significant funding is available to facilitate such continuing education. Whether undertaken during the school year or the summer, continued college course work is eligible for tuition (at current USF tuition rates) and textbook reimbursement provided that the employee earns a minimum "B" in the course. The School also provides generous financial support for faculty to attend conferences and workshops.

Policy of Non-discrimination

Shorecrest Preparatory School welcomes candidates for admission or employment, regardless of age, race, culture, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socio-economic status, national or ethnic origin, and does not discriminate on the basis of any category protected by law in the administration of any of its programs.

Shorecrest is a designated drug-free workplace.
