A letter from the Headmaster
Michael A. Murphy

Welcome to Shorecrest!

Have you ever been in a school where teachers and the experiences being offered to the students regularly exceed your expectations? Since moving to Shorecrest in July 2005, my wife and I have personally been impressed with how our son, who is beginning his senior year, has been challenged, nurtured and advanced by his teachers. I honestly do not believe he would have had the same opportunities if he had not come to Shorecrest.

When I meet with alumni parents, I consistently hear them rave about the successful experiences their sons and daughters are having in their universities and careers. The success of our graduates is one measure of the value gained from a Shorecrest education. I am equally gratified to hear parents in all the various divisions of the school say that their children love coming to school. Yet, I realize Shorecrest has room to improve.

As proud as we are with the accomplishments of our students, the faculty and staff, we realize that there is work to do as we strive to be a great school. We are not hesitant in saying that members of our community should "expect the best."

In the spring of 2006 the Board of Trustees adopted a strategic plan that has set the direction for improvements at Shorecrest. Today, faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and students are working with our trustees to achieve our goals. In May 2007 a ground breaking ceremony initiated construction for Landy Hall, the new academic building for our Upper Division. This project is phase one of a multi-staged program to improve facilities to the quality of our academic programs.

I invite you to visit Shorecrest. Our Admissions staff is available year-round to provide students and their families' tours of the campus. We understand that a child's education is the foundation for future happiness and success. I believe you will find the academic programs as well as the opportunities in athletics, arts, service and leadership to be excellent springboards for a productive future.

Cheers!

Mike Murphy
