Outstanding Faculty - Emerson “Doc” Littlefield,
Ph.D.
Dr. Littlefield is the Chair of the English department and one
of Shorecrest’s best-loved faculty members. He received his
Ph.D. from Florida State, where his dissertation was on "Character
and Language in the Novels of Ursula LeGuin and Samuel R. Delaney."
Previously a college professor, Dr. Littlefield brings a college
atmosphere in his classroom to his students. He currently teaches
Honors Senior English--History of Ideas, which is a course he developed
that is an introduction to Western philosophies and philosophers.
Additionally, he teaches AP Language and Composition, which is
the AP English course on nonfiction writing, and AP Literature.
He has taught many other courses in his time at Shorecrest: Senior
Composition, Junior English, Junior Honors, Ninth Grade Honors,
and Creative Writing, to name a few. For several years Dr. Littlefield
has been a reader for the AP Language exams in June, in Daytona
Beach.
