Outstanding Faculty - Emerson “Doc” Littlefield, Ph.D.

Dr. Littlefield is the Chair of the English department and one of Shorecrest’s best-loved faculty members. He received his Ph.D. from Florida State, where his dissertation was on "Character and Language in the Novels of Ursula LeGuin and Samuel R. Delaney."

Previously a college professor, Dr. Littlefield brings a college atmosphere in his classroom to his students. He currently teaches Honors Senior English--History of Ideas, which is a course he developed that is an introduction to Western philosophies and philosophers. Additionally, he teaches AP Language and Composition, which is the AP English course on nonfiction writing, and AP Literature. He has taught many other courses in his time at Shorecrest: Senior Composition, Junior English, Junior Honors, Ninth Grade Honors, and Creative Writing, to name a few. For several years Dr. Littlefield has been a reader for the AP Language exams in June, in Daytona Beach.
