Q: How is the school separated by divisions?
A: The entire school sits on a 28-acre campus, but is divided into 4 separate divisions:
Early Childhood Center (also called ECC) =
Alpha Class and Jr. Kindergarten
Lower Division = Kindergarten through grade 4
Middle Division = Grades 5 - 8
Upper Division = Grades 9 - 12
Q: What about security on campus?
A: Early Childhood and Lower Divisions are totally enclosed by fencing. Security cameras around campus monitor activity 24 hours a day. All school employees wear identification badges. Any visitor to campus, including parents, must sign in at the office and obtain a visitor's pass.
Q: What is the Honor Pledge?
A: Our Honor Pledge reads: "I promise to be personally and academically honest and to treat others with respect and courtesy." According to Headmaster Mike Murphy: "Through the collaborative efforts of all Shorecrest community members, our aim is to make the Honor Pledge an integral part of the daily life of our school."
Q: When will I learn what class my child is in?
A: Early Childhood and Lower Division children will find out who their teachers are the week before school begins. Middle and Upper Division students are assigned a Faculty Advisor.
Q: How do I get a copy of the school directory? Or the Student/Parent Handbook?
A: Every family receives one free copy of the Family Directory per student and one Student/Parent Handbook per student. Additional directories are available for purchase in each division office. Additional copies of the handbook are available for no charge.
Q: What is E-Bytes?
A: Our online newsletter E-Bytes is a great way to keep up with what is happening on campus. It is updated weekly when school is in session. Look for photos of your student and reminders of what activities are coming up!
Q: How do I get in touch with a teacher?
A: Our teachers are very approachable and committed to working in partnership with parents. You can e-mail them, telephone them, or leave a message in the office.
Q: How do I ever say thank you to the teachers and staff for all that they do?
A: You can volunteer for field trips and classroom help, and participate in Teacher Appreciation Day every spring, a SPA-sponsored event.
Q: What do we do about lunch?
A: Students may purchase the school lunch or bring lunch from home. A kitchen on campus services all divisions, with choices of hot lunch, cold lunch, or a la carte items and beverages. Parents may purchase the yearly lunch plan, a monthly plan, or may buy lunch tickets in packs of 10 tickets. Learn more about the campus lunch service and check out the lunch menus.
Q: Where is the Clinic, and the school nurse?
A: The Clinic serves all Shorecrest students and is located in the Lower Division. We are fortunate to have a full time R.N. on staff. Her name is Marie Confident, and the Clinic phone number is 727-456-7523.
Q: What medical forms does my child need?
A: All students must have on file a Florida DH3040 (yellow) form and form DH680 (blue card) or DH681 (religious exemption). These are available only in medical offices. Student athletes must also have an athletic FHSAA form, available through the Admissions Office or Athletic Director.
Q: What standardized testing does Shorecrest use?
A: We administer the ERB CTP4 to students in grades 3 through 8. Our ninth graders take the ACT's PLAN test, 10th graders take the PSAT for practice, 11th graders take the PSAT for National Merit Scholarship qualification, and students in grades 10 through 12 take the SAT Reasoning, the SAT Subject Area Tests, and/or the ACT. All high school students enrolled in AP classes sit for the National AP exams. We are very proud of our students' success on these tests!

Q: What is TLC?
A: TLC stands for The Learning Center. If your student needs academic tutoring or enrichment, organizational and study skills, occupational or speech therapy, we can provide it on campus. We have a full staff of experienced professionals to work with you.

A: Shorecrest benefits from a strong tradition of gift support to the school. Over 90% of Shorecrest families give to the Annual Fund each year. The school is also currently asking for investments to a capital and endowment campaign.

A: SPA stands for the Shorecrest Parent Association.
Q: What are these Shorecrest traditions?
Alumni Golf & Tennis Tournament - This May event, sponsored by the Shorecrest Alumni Association, is open to all parents and to guests. If you enjoy tennis and/or golf, this is the event for you. It includes lunch and great prizes.
Back-to-School Night - Don't miss this evening opportunity to sit in your student's desk, meet his or her teachers, and learn what is in store for the year.
The Big Event - The major spring fund raiser for the school, this is always one of the most festive events of the year! Stay tuned for more details.
Celebrate the Arts- This weekend in April showcases all students' achievements in the visual and performing arts. A juried art show, art displays, and our magnificent high school musical production are highlights. A must for everyone to see!
Community Service Day - Community Service Day - All Middle and Upper Division students participate in community service projects, some off campus, others on campus. Whether it is beach cleanup, the SPCA, Habitat for Humanity, shelters or campus beautification, our students participate in various important endeavors.
Fall Festival - A great family day for Early Childhood through fourth grade. Food, fun, games, and prizes after the Halloween Parade.
Field Day - A fun-filled day in May for Early Childhood and Lower Division children, while Middle and Upper Division students are volunteering for community service projects.
Green & Gold Days- Designated days for students to wear the school colors. We like to show our school spirit!
Grandparents & Special Friends Day - A February event. Grandparents come from far and wide to spend the morning on campus, visiting their grandchildren's classes. Children who do not have grandparents available are encouraged to invite a Special Friend.
Halloween Parade - Watch your youngster parade around the campus in Halloween costume! A great photo opportunity! Preschool - grade 4.
Holiday Gift Drive - The whole school gets involved in this charity outreach every year at holiday time benefiting Guardian ad Litem families.
Holiday Greenery - A SPA-sponsored fund raiser. If you plan to decorate your home or office for the holidays, this is a great place to buy wreaths and garlands.
Homecoming - This is a longstanding tradition for our high school students, with athletic and spirit competitions, costumes, skits and banners. The fun culminates in the Homecoming football game, the crowning of Mr. Spirit and the Homecoming Queen, followed by the annual Homecoming dance.
New Parent Breakfast - This January event is a get-together to touch base with our new families and welcome some who may have joined the school mid-year.
New Parent Dinner - This August event, the week before school begins, is the place to meet administrators and other families in your child's grade level, and to learn more about the school. Don't miss it!
Pet Parade - A special event for the Jr. Kindergarten children to bring their pets (real or stuffed animals!) to school. In combination with this wonderful event, the children learn the spirit of giving, collecting pet food and supplies for animal rescue. Worth watching, even if you don't have a child that age!
Poetry in the Park - A longstanding tradition, students from our 3-year-olds through 4th graders recite poetry outdoors under the trees. Bring a chair or a blanket and don't miss this event!
SPA Spring Luncheon - This May luncheon honors the proud parents of our graduating seniors and all the parents who have volunteered throughout the year, but is attended by many parents, alums, grandparents, and guests. It is a great way to end the school year. Come one, come all!
Spirit Night -A "welcome back" get-together, pep rally and family picnic to kick off the school year.
Turkey Bowl - One of Shorecrest's oldest traditions, held Thanksgiving weekend, where alumni from the past 3 or 4 decades return to challenge the current varsity teams to games of football, volleyball, and soccer. The coveted trophy is a silver bowl with, of course, a turkey on top, not to mention "bragging rights" for an entire year!
Q: What is the Booster Club?
A: Booster Club undertakes special projects to enhance the athletic programs at Shorecrest. Its membership dues help pay for game officials, trophies, videos, sports facilities repair, and athletic equipment.
Q: What is the school team name? The school colors? The mascot?
A: We are the Shorecrest CHARGERS! Our colors are green and gold. Our mascot is Sparky, the lightning bolt. Come to any athletic events and cheer us on!
