Arts Program
The visual and performing arts are a vibrant entity
at Shorecrest, bursting with enrichment, state-of-the-art facilities,
thirty-seven separate course offerings and an extraordinary level
of student participation. The exceptionally talented faculty
includes a nationally recognized playwright who has two Eugene
O’Neill Awards to his credit as well as several off-Broadway
plays and screen plays; a musical theatre instructor who has
published four original musicals and written and directed the
music for more than a dozen American Stage productions of Shakespeare
in the Park; a highly respected dance instructor who has trained
with members of the Royal Ballet and the New York City Ballet and has won
national awards for her choreography of tap, lyrical, jazz and
musical theatre productions; and an instrumental music instructor
who was a former recording artist for RCA records and has played
with both symphonies and “Big Bands” throughout his
distinguished career.
The accomplished professionals in the Arts and Humanities department
have encouraged and guided our students through many successful
endeavors at local, state and national levels. Shorecrest students
have received awards/acclaim for their paintings, photography,
TV productions, graphic designs, instrumental music presentations,
playwrighting skills, and drama, musical theatre and dance performances.
An extension of the Arts and Humanities Department, the Cultural
Enrichment program provides an additional opportunity for Shorecrest
students to acquire an even broader knowledge of the arts. We
expose all of our students to art, music, dance, and theatre
by having workshops within the classrooms and bringing national
and international performers to the school. Our students also
take trips to various museums and performing arts centers in
St, Petersburg, Clearwater, Tampa and Sarasota.
With a strong belief that literacy in the arts is essential
to the development of a well-educated person, Shorecrest Preparatory
School provides its students with a dazzling array of cultural
and intellectual arts opportunities.
