After School

Extended Day for The Experiential School & Lower School 

Extended Day is designed to provide a safe, nurturing, and enjoyable environment for children who require supervision beyond school hours on a regular basis. Activities will include snack, outdoor play, time for homework, games and crafts. Care is offered from 2:45 - 6:00pm on regular school days. 


Extended Day locations are:

  • Alpha​ - Pineapple Alpha Cottage (Ms. Styke's Classroom)
  • Junior Kindergarten​ - Honey Bee Alpha Cottage (Mrs. Carson’s Classroom)
  • Kindergarten​
    • Tuesday - Friday in the Wonder Studio (former Admin building)
    • Monday *NEW*
      2:45 to 3:40: Ms. Kotsko's K classroom
      3:40 to 4:30 (weather permitting): Playground
      4:30 to 6:00: In the Student Activity Center (SAC)
  • 1st and 2nd Grades​ - the Student Activity Center (SAC)
  • 3rd and 4th Grades ​- the Library until 5pm, the SAC after 5pm
  • Middle School ​- Sher and Razook Center, rotating monthly between the classrooms.
Other Logistics:
  • Alpha - Kindergarten will be using the play area located next to the Alpha cottages for recess.
  • 1st and 2nd grade will use the play area located next to the Alpha cottages when younger students are inside.
  • 3rd - 4th grade will play outside the Janet Root Theatre for recess.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to have water bottles with their names on them. Third - eighth graders are required to provide a labeled, sealable water bottle due to the location of their aftercare.


Child Care for School Closed Days

As an extra service, child care is available for Alpha – fourth graders when school is closed: Half Days and School Closed Days. Separate registration is required for these days. View a list of dates 2018-19 here.

On school closed days or half days, Extended Day will be in the following rooms:
  • Alpha and Junior Kindergarten: Pineapple Alpha Cottage (Styke/Folwell Classroom)
  • Kindergarten - 4th grade: SAC (adjacent to the library)

Middle School After School Program

For the safety and well-being of our Middle School students, all fifth-eighth graders who remain after school must be enrolled in the After School Program unless one of the following applies:
  • The student is waiting for an older sibling to pick them up around 3:30pm
  • The student is participating in after school clubs, intramurals or athletics
  • The student needs to remain on campus after a scheduled activity until a parent can pick them up
Quick Details:
  • Monday - Friday: 3pm-6pm
  • Daily snack provided
  • Outdoor recess
  • Homework and quiz/test help
  • Guidance with organization and study tips
  • Upper School students, led by National Honor Society members, are available as study buddies, mentors and homework helpers
Location:
Fifth & Sixth Grade Classrooms (Sher and Razook Center, rotating monthly between the classrooms.)

Other Logistics:
    1. Bring a labeled water bottle from home.
    2. Always have an independent reading book to use after completing homework.
    3. The two main rules for study hall are the same as during the school day: BE KIND and DO THE RIGHT THING.

    After School Clubs

    After School Programs are a wonderful way to provide enriching activities for your child. Shorecrest offers 4 six-week afterschool club sessions during the school year. All clubs meet from dismissal - 4:00pm. Please contact Terry Kessel with any questions: tkessel@shorecrest.org.

    • Session 2: October 29 - December 14; make up week December 17. 
    • Session 3: January 21 - March 1; make up week March 4.

    Cub Scouts

    Cub Scout Pack 303 holds its meetings on the first Tuesday of each month from 3:00- 4:30pm in the Wood Family Pavillon (7/8th grade lunch area).
