Identity, Otherness and Privilege
Presenter: Roderick Avery Fludd
Eight 1-hour sessions (2 weeks, Monday - Thursday, 1:30pm to 2:30pm)
Join Roderick Avery Fludd, Shorecrest's Director of Diversity and Inclusion, for a 4-day intensive, engaging workshop that will change the way you see the world, your country, your state, and even yourself!
This course is designed to augment and enhance the experience of individuals who work within the fields of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in independent schools in Florida.
The workshop will be designed around 3 components:
- Privileges (including recognizing and addressing)
It is essential for students to have the ability to interact with the diverse and rich cultures of the world, not only with the people within their community. Diversity and inclusion are not about just what people look like, but also about diversity of thought, diversity of access, and diversity of experience. The more exposure our children have to the ideas of equity and inclusion, the better prepared global leaders they will become. In order to create these global citizens, students, faculty, staff, administrators, board members, and parents have to dive deeply into the areas of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion by looking at their own identities.
This workshop will engage its participants in activities designed to be shared and used within your community and help you develop your work in the community. As a participant, you will be challenged to think about your work in your school and how to engage your community.
Please join me in creating equitable environments for students while developing culturally conscious faculty and staff who work to create meaningful global learners.
