Specialized Academic Tutoring

Specialists in The Learning Center are committed to providing individualized tutoring for any student Kindergarten -12th grade who wants to enrich or add learning techniques, study skills, or organizational skills to make learning more productive and effective.

Specialists are credentialed in the subject areas they teach. Additionally, The Learning Center includes specialists with advanced training in the Wilson System, Barton System, and Orton-Gillingham which are multisensory, structured language approaches to teach reading and writing.

Tutoring for Middle and Upper School students happens either after school or during a free period during the school day. Tutoring for Lower School students happens either during the school day or after school.

English Language Learners (ELL)

Our specialized tutors provide support specific to the needs of English Language Learners. Students understand and learn the content in their classes as well as the direct English language instruction through direct teaching with their tutors and classroom teachers. Therapy

Speech/Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists work with teachers, parents, and students to make sure students reach their potential. Many of our students receive speech and language therapy and/or occupational therapy during the school day. This allows the students to learn skills that will directly impact their academic and social learning in and out of the classroom.

Tracie Belt joined Shorecrest as a Middle School science teacher in 1996, and is now the Director of The Learning Center. Mrs. Belt graduated with a Bachelor of Arts from Wittenberg University and a Master of Education from the University of South Florida. Her daughter Casey graduated from Shorecrest in 2002.

Miriam Pardoll joined The Learning Center as Learning Center Coordinator for The Experiential School and Lower School in 2016. She has a master's degree in Special Education from the University of Massachusetts and a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education from Boston University. She has over 20 years experience working in public and private schools in Massachusetts and Florida. She has worked as a classroom teacher and learning specialist in addition to developing a learning center. Mrs. Pardoll also teaches other educators through professional development and college students at St. Petersburg College. She is a certified Dyslexia Therapist and a certified ADHD Professional. Mrs. Pardoll is passionate about making sure diverse learners reach their potential and wants all students to be involved at Shorecrest, feel empowered and be proud of their accomplishments.The Pardolls have two children at Shorecrest in the Class of 2029.
Heather Vidal

Heather Vidal has been working in The Learning Center at Shorecrest since 2014, and transitioned in 2020 to be the Literacy Specialist for Lower School and Middle School. She has a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education from the University of Tampa with endorsements in ESOL and ESE. She has completed extensive training in the Orton-Gillingham approach. She is a published author and has written several curriculum guides designed for students with dyslexia and other learning differences. Prior to working at Shorecrest, Mrs. Vidal taught third grade at a local charter school. When she is not teaching, she enjoys hiking, cooking and gardening. The Vidals have two daughters, Juniper and Florence.
