Coed, independent, PK3-12th grade school in St. Petersburg, Florida.
On Saturday, May 21, the 87-member Shorecrest Preparatory School Class of 2022 received their diplomas in the Janet Root Theatre. Among the graduating class were 4 students recognized by the National Merit Scholarship Corp., a military appointment, 9 NCAA committed student-athletes, and Thespians acknowledged by the Broadway Star of the Future Awards! Five Chargers were recognized as STEAM Scholars and 10 as Global Scholars with special seals on their diplomas.

Collectively the Class of 2022 completed over 11,000 service hours during their four years of high school - locally, nationally and virtually.

As a PK-12 independent school, students may spend their entire childhood at Shorecrest. Of the Class of 2022, 35 students attended Shorecrest for over 11 years and are considered “Lifers.” They were awarded a longevity medal and recognized during Commencement.

Legacy students are also an important component of community-building here at Shorecrest. The Class of 2022 includes five students with at least one parent who attended Shorecrest in the past. The connections for this class are strengthened with more members having relatives who were faculty/staff members or have served on the Shorecrest Board of Trustees.

Meet Michael Cañizares, Valedictorian

Class of 2022 Valedictorian, Michael Cañizares, personifies the Mission and Core Values of Shorecrest. A 15-year lifer who began at Shorecrest at 3 years old, Michael upholds the four pillars of the School’s mission as a top scholar, talented musician, dedicated athlete, and committed community leader. He is known for tackling academic challenges, finding connections between subjects, and pursuing his interests with gusto.

Meet Ethan Danielson, Salutatorian

Class of 2022 Salutatorian, Ethan Danielson, is a National Championship sailor, Coolidge Senator, and National Merit Commended Scholar. Another fun fact: he cleverly managed the omnipresent challenge of parking on the Shorecrest campus this year. Celebrating the senior tradition of painting his spot’s curb stop, Ethan forewent the traditional choices of nickname, initials or artwork, and instead painted simply “NO PARKING” on his designated spot. He is one of few individuals who has never arrived at school to find his parking spot borrowed.
Mikhail Whyte arrived at Shorecrest as a sophomore transfer student in order to pursue stronger academic opportunities. In his first year on the campus, Mikhail was awarded the distinction of Outstanding Citizen for the tenth-grade class, quickly and quietly establishing his legacy within the Shorecrest community. Shaped but not defined by adversity and challenges over the years, he chooses on a daily basis to remain steadfast to a commitment to himself and his family to be proud, diligent, and responsible while approaching each day with a sense of humor and positivity.
