Welcome French Exchange Students
by Raffi Darrow, Ebytes Editor
French high school students from Lycée Bayen in the champagne region of France arrived on campus Friday morning for a two-week stay. The visit is part of an international exchange that is now in its 24th year. Through this program, Shorecrest students and their French counterparts enjoy an immersive language experience, exposure to multiple perspectives, and an enhanced interest in global issues. Further, exchanges provide an opportunity to develop analytical and problem solving skills, to grow in maturity and social poise, and to enhance self-confidence and self-esteem, fueled by the necessity to confront challenges outside a familiar comfort zone. Perhaps best of all, students form lifelong friendships!
World Languages teacher Sidy Ndiaye, French Club Presidents Ryan Healy '20 and Erin Wilson '20, Headmaster Mike Murphy, Head of Upper School Don Paige, US Assistant Head & Academic Dean Erich Schneider, and Jackie Carnes, former French teacher, welcome the Lycée Bayen students on their first day at Shorecrest. After enjoying breakfast together, the students slipped into the back of the Janet Root Theatre just in time to hear third graders sing "Fifty Nifty United States," which our French friends have been practicing.
The French students will be on campus until February 15.
Thank you to the Shorecrest families who are hosting these students and giving them an amazing, memorable adventure of a lifetime!
