Striving to Be More
by Mike Murphy, Headmaster
Student and parent feedback, re-enrollment, and faculty/staff retention are three of many ways we learn how our families and the community feel about the quality of the overall educational experience at Shorecrest. Niche.com, a school and community ranking platform, has also become a source for consistent information about our school's performance and reputation in the community.
At a recent faculty meeting, I shared Shorecrest's latest rankings from Niche for Pinellas County and for the state of Florida. While I always couch rankings in an appropriate degree of skepticism - they include things like school size, and endowment - I realize that in our digital world many families depend on these types of data sources in their initial assessment of schools. Niche's rankings are also helpful in setting benchmarks and measuring improvement. Among our Pinellas County peers, Shorecrest is #1 across a number of categories. We also fare well overall across the state of Florida.
We are proud of the work we are doing with curriculum and program development. Our demonstrated commitment to professional development to advance our faculty and staff is also laudable. However, it is the success of our talented students in college placement and in our co-curricular programs that has spiked this increase in rankings over the past two years.
This is a great time to be at Shorecrest. We are striving to be better - Be More - every day. The collaborative efforts of families and faculty to support our children is opening up great opportunities for short-term and long-term success.
Yes, rankings can occasionally be misleading or misinformed, but ranking Shorecrest as #1 is right on the mark.
