This I Believe speeches and videos

by Jake Seymour, Upper School English Teacher
Sophomores completed their "This I Believe" speeches. Ms. Ekblad and Mr. Seymour's students, following the guidelines of the National Public Radio program of the same name, took positions on topics of their choosing and explained how they came to believe them to be true. Invitations were made for the entire school to attend, and many Upper School students spent their free periods watching and supporting their peers.

Topics were wide-ranging, from lessons about the simple pleasures in life - like the power of hugs, to the struggles that many young people face - such as anxiety and social media use, to difficulties that impact us nationally and globally. Some of the speeched may be viewed at the video links below:

"I believe the only way out is through, and the only way through is together," Brenna D.

"I believe that I am scared of the future, and this completely OK," Eric J.

"I believe that people should stop putting things off. It's never too late to start being who you want to be," Shannon R.
