On Monday, May 20, the Middle School student body, faculty and many visiting friends gathered in the Janet Root Theatre for the 2019 Middle School Awards Assembly. Awards were given in a variety of categories including: Academic Honors, Arts, Thespians, Invention Convention, World Languages, State History Fair, National Geographic Geography Bee, and Duke TIP SAT/ACT scores.

The ceremony ended with some very special Shorecrest awards:

The Harold Bruggeman Award is given to a sixth grader for sportsmanship and dedication. This year it was awarded to Sophia J.

Citizen of the Year Awards were given to: fifth grader Sierra O., sixth grader Ava P., seventh grader Adelaide O. and eighth grader Grace W.

A new award was added this year - The SPARK Award. This award is intended for a student who added “spark” to the grade. It doesn’t have to be given out every year at each grade level. Mrs. Grant, Head of Middle School, explained, "At the beginning of the year I asked the students to follow two rules: Be Kind and Do the Right Thing. The teachers nominated and voted on the student who they felt embodied those two rules." The award winners were: Fifth grader Conner L. and sixth grader Sinai D.
The Assembly concluded with the announcement that in early fall of 2019 there will be auditions for a MS Musical: The Wizard of Oz!

Congratulations to all of the Middle School students for a great school year!
