Experiment Extravaganza in Third Grade
by Jenn Hobbs, Third Grade Teacher
Last Friday third graders used their scientific skills at an Experiment Extravaganza.
Throughout the week, students were given an overview of the scientific method. They learned how to structure a hypothesis, an educated guess, and that additional research can help find out more about a question or its answer. Students now know they can run scientific tests to find possible answers to questions they have about the world around them.
The third graders enjoyed rotating through a variety of different science lab experiments at their culmination event, where parent volunteers helped run different stations. Ask a third grader about the Penny Experiment, the Milk Experiment, Guess the Age of the Tree, and Shake it Up! It is evident that many of the children love science!
When all experiments are complete, the students will write a reflection of what they learned. Thank you parents for helping solidify these scientific skills so third graders can apply them to their next big project!
