Growing Community in ES
by Dr. Sherri Danyali, Director of the Experiential School of Tampa Bay
The feeling of community now present in the Experiential School is palpable. I sense it in the faces, eyes, gestures, and voices of students as they excitedly greet other children and happily interact with teachers. I notice families greeting each other with warmth and familiarity and conversing with teachers as trusted partners. It is wonderful to witness relationships developing here.
The first five weeks of school have been full. Together, we discussed curriculum goals, met for listening conferences and orientations, and planned events. There have been opportunities to socialize on and off-campus. Thank you to all our wonderful volunteers who have taken time to help us in the lunchroom, on the playground, at carline, and who trained to help in the Library. Your involvement is valued.
Even though students have successfully learned school routines, created agreements, and participated in classroom and grade-level activities, it is normal for some students to experience difficulty saying goodbye to parents/guardians when they leave after participating in exciting school activities or at the start of the day leaving the car.
During the next few weeks, the teachers aim to get in a consistent flow with their full focus on students and the life of their classroom without special events. Even though each class will venture off campus and into the community for a field experience to the park where families will join us, most days will follow a consistent schedule.
To allow for students and teachers to have the time and space to fully immerse themselves in the rhythm of school life, the ES faculty and I have decided to cancel the October 16 and 17 Family Engagement Days.
We encourage parents / guardians to join us on October 31 for the Costume Parade and Fall Festival.
