Jr. Thespians at 2021 Virtual State Festival

by Stephanie McCarthy, MS Music Teacher and Thespian Director
The 2021 Florida State Thespian Festival was held virtually this year (rather than at the Orlando Convention Center) with the themes "Keeping the Light On" and "Be the Light." A ghost light is an electric light that is traditionally left energized on the stage of a theater when the theater is unoccupied and would otherwise be completely dark. In this year-plus of dark theaters due to COVID, performing artists - aspiring and seasoned professionals alike - know the multiple challenges to continue their craft in a safe manner, if at all.

The Festival opening video featured Broadway performers who were once Florida Thespians themselves, expressing how important the arts will be when we begin to turn our world around. "After we get through this, artists will become the essential workers. Theatre is what will help us all heal," they shared.

Eighteen of Shorecrest's 23 Jr. Thespian Troupe 88197 members attended:  Bijoy A '26, Gia B '26, Kaelie D '26, Sophia F '27, Luna G '26, Jasper H '26, Morgan H '27, Tanner J '26, Sally K '26, Hope K '27, Sofia L '27, Alex L '26, Brecken P '26, Aurora S '27, Camilla S '27, Paul S '27, Sophia T '27, and Will T '27.
