Varsity Tennis at Regionals

by Coach Davis
The Chargers Varsity Tennis Girls team had a hard fought win over Tampa Prep at Regional Semifinals. Going into the determining number 1 and number 2 doubles matches, the Chargers were down 2-3. (The first team to earn 4 points wins the match, so the Chargers were 1 point away from defeat after the singles matches were played. )

Both doubles teams lost the first set but came back to win the second sets, setting up the deciding 10-point tie break. In an exciting team finish, both doubles teams won the tie breaks and the match beating Tampa Prep in an exciting 4-3 finish!

Sadly, the girls lost their berth for a State Championship last night in their Regional Final matchup. They traveled to Tampa to play a tough Berkeley team but couldn’t come up with a win.

The Chargers Varsity Tennis Boys team's season concluded with a strong showing in the Regional Semifinals and we are proud of them. They went in to doubles play 2-3 down with singles wins only at the number 2 and number 5 position (the Bilanovic brothers as it turned out). Both number 1 and number 2 doubles teams lost their matches in straight sets as Berkeley walked away with the win at 5-2. The boys number 1 doubles team - as District Champions - advance to the State championship in Orlando.
