Meet the Cheerble

by Julianne L '25 and Ryan M ’25
The Entrepreneurial Design Institute (EDI) is a new signature program for eighth graders at Shorecrest in which Chargers address community needs through entrepreneurial thinking. Once students identify problems/issues in their community, they harness the power of design thinking, idea generation, ideation and action to develop a unique solution to a real world issue.  The course was developed and is taught by Middle School Curriculum Dean Chris Scoby and Head of Middle School Kris Grant.
Students recently developed a business idea and explored a variety of tools to develop the venture while practicing the entrepreneurial mindset. One such project is presented for you here:
"For this class we are selling a ball that will move by itself and provide exercise for dogs while their owner is away. We named our company tucker ball after our CEO’s dog," shared Ryan M. '25.

Julianne L. '25 went on to say, "The Cheerble is an automatic dog ball that improves the classic tennis ball dog toy. Instead of using the normal forces of gravity to entertain your dog, the Cheerble uses a motor to change the ball's movement and make dog toys more enjoyable. By making the ball move by itself, dogs can entertain themselves when you aren't home."
