Have you heard about loose parts?

by Adriana Hollenbeck, Head of The Experiential School of Tampa Bay
Children can spend a long time playing with ordinary objects such as boxes or rocks. In Florida, sand, shells and water are no strangers to young children. What makes these simple materials so exciting is the fact that they create space for curiosity and give kids free rein to creativity and imagination. In the world of Early Childhood we call these materials loose parts.

The next time you visit The Experiential School of Tampa Bay, look around closely. You will find plenty of loose parts, and they are a big component of the philosophy of Alpha and JK.

Find out more about how teaching and learning come to life at The Experiential School at Back To School Night. Join faculty, staff, volunteers and more community members in the Janet Root Theatre on August 31 at 7pm. Parents will also have the opportunity to meet with the teachers in the classrooms.
