Shorecrest sophomores in Mr. Seymour’s English Honors class created games that use Joseph Campbell’s Hero’s Journey or Monomyth and the plot and characters of “The Epic of Gilgamesh.”
Students were assigned to work alone or in small groups to create a game their classmates could play in any traditional form: board game, dice game, card game, video game, etc. Well developed and creative games (mostly board games) were created and reflected student use of storytelling. The Chargers took turns demonstrating their games and explaining the rules before their peers tried them out.
Cross-curricular, engaging projects like this one rather than a traditional book report support the needs of a variety of students and help make the learning more memorable.
