Yoga Anatomy Project

by Lisa Peck, Director of The Peck Center for Medical Sciences
Shorecrest Upper School students in Mrs. Peck’s anatomy class had a yoga project as a culmination of their skeletal and muscle units.

Ann Marie Hardy, Upper School Dean of Students and certified yoga instructor, taught the Chargers how to practice a yoga Sun Salutation. Then the anatomy students worked with a partner to research assigned yoga poses using Yoga Rove’s web-based article, “How to Do the 12 Poses of Sun Salutation for Beginners.”

Ally and Victor Foote, co-Founders of Yoga Rove, were very excited to hear about the yoga project. They even shared their “Beginners Guide to Yoga” (free of charge) with the anatomy students to use. Partners took photos of themselves performing the 12 poses of a sun salutation. They also researched yoga poses beneficial for different body regions using Yoga Journal’s website.

Finally they put all of their research and photos together to create slides for the Shorecrest Community. You can view their slides here:
Thank you Yoga Rove! We really appreciate your help!
