Wrapping Up the Holiday Gift Drive

by Stacy Conroy '00 and Bonnie Lurie
On behalf of SCA, we want to thank the entire Shorecrest community for your incredible generosity to the 2021 Holiday Gift Drive. This year, we fulfilled the holiday wishlists of over 270 children in the Guardian ad Litem program (more than we have ever done before!), AND we will be donating excess funds to the Guardian ad Litem Foundation of Tampa Bay to help cover ongoing needs of children through the year.

The Holiday Gift Drive is an event that truly takes the entire Shorecrest community to be successful. Our families were once again exceedingly generous! Our alumni and alumni families participated for the first time, providing gifts for 20 additional children, thanks to the leadership of alumni parent Heather O’Neill and Stacy Alexander, Director of Alumni and Community Engagement.

Shorecrest's operations and maintenance staff worked tirelessly to bring gifts to the Athletic Center on Friday and then came in on Saturday to return the Athletic Center to its normal form; the administration helped to coordinate the flow of students through the Athletic Center (special thanks to Marcia Johnston!); Communications Manager Raffi Darrow documented with pictures and videos and kept us on track to publicize the event; the Upper School’s Guardian ad Litem Club provided wrapped boxes throughout campus to collect gifts and helped us set up the Athletic Center Friday morning; and our amazing volunteers once again made it all come together - through updating Sign Up Genius, gift sorting and wrapping, shopping for last minute items, greeting the Guardians at our drive-through pick up, and much more.

Thanks to all of you, there will be 270 children who are able to smile a little brighter this holiday season. We are so grateful for the continued support of the Shorecrest community for this important project!

One family that benefited from the Gift Drive left the following note:
"Our 7 foster children are recipients of the generosity of members of your school. We are overwhelmed by the cooperation and commitment these families have demonstrated to help hurting children. Thank you for providing many smiles this Christmas. With gratitude, P&D"

If you are interested in helping with next year’s Gift Drive, please contact us at giftdrive@shorecrest.org or our personal emails (stacyes@gmail.com or hopeforwind@gmail.com).

Happy Holidays and Happy New Year!
