Halfway through the School Year

by Nancy L. Spencer, Head of School
Author A. A. Milne, best known for his Winnie-the-Pooh books, wrote a poem called “Halfway Down.” It’s about a little boy who likes to stop and sit on a special step, halfway up and halfway down the staircase. As we edge past the halfway point in our school year, there is a stanza that resonates with me.

Halfway up the stairs
Isn't up
And it isn't down.
It isn't in the nursery,
It isn't in town.
And all sorts of funny thoughts
Run round my head.
It isn't really
Anywhere!
It's somewhere else
Instead!

The halfway point of anything is an occasion to stop and take stock of a journey. It’s a time to reflect on what we have accomplished thus far and the challenges that lay ahead. As we consider how much our Shorecrest students have grown and developed since August, it is exciting to imagine the weeks and months still to come.

Halfway through the current school year, I hope you will join me in taking a moment to appreciate our successes to date, and to express gratitude that we have the gift of time for experiences still to come.

All the best,
Nancy
