Collaboration Across the Pond
by Adriana Hollenbeck, Head of The Experiential School of Tampa Bay
The best part of being an educator is embracing a “forever learning” modus operandi and understanding that this is the essence of our craft.
This fast moving planet (“I think I can feel it move, Mrs. Hahn,” said one of Abbie’s students!) challenges us on a daily basis; and educators from all corners of the globe have learned that we should stick together and compare notes.
I am proud to share that Roberta Pucci, a researcher from Reggio Emilia, has included photographs of outdoor time at The Experiential School in a presentation that she will be sharing with other educators.
The collaboration started when we were having a conversation about the dialogue with materials. I was doing some observation myself; and after getting permission from the student's parent we were able to deepen the interaction and formally include the images as part of the content of the presentation.
To me, this is not just a matter of someone using our images, but an educator from Reggio Emilia paying close attention to the work we are doing here. They are extremely particular about who they “let in” and about how much they validate. Since this philosophy is not just a “stamp” a school gets, I hope you understand how proud we are for being part of this network.
Our teachers are doing magnificent work and I appreciate them and you for supporting this approach with open hearts and big dreams.
