by Coach Bob Davis
In the second week of varsity tennis action, the boys swept Calvary Christian School on Thursday 7-0, and squeaked by Indian Rocks Christian School on Tuesday 4-3.

Leading the Chargers was team captain Stefan Bilanovic '23 at the #1 position defeating Jaden R 8-3.  At the #2, first year varsity player Alex R '28 defeated Cole S, 8-1. Ryan Majeski '25 at the #3 defeated Nick A 8-4.  Misha Drunov '24 playing #4 bested Anthony V. 8-1 and Sasa Bilanovic '25 in the #5 position beat his opponent in a close 8-6 match. The number 1 doubles team of Stefan Bilanovic '23 and Alex R '28 won 8-1 and the number 2 team of Misha Drunov '24 and Sasa Bilanovic '25 won 8-2.

The match against Indian Rocks Christian School was a whole different story. It was a nail biter with the number 1 doubles team pulling it out in the last match of the evening 9-8(4) and giving the chargers a close 4-3 win.

Ryan Majeski '25 played the 1 against Mason S and dropped a tough match 3-8. Sasa Bilanovic '25 at the 2 won a close match 8-5. Misha Drunov '24 at the 3 handily beat his opponent Colin W. 8-2.  Fin Matheson '23 dropped a close match 6-8, and first year varsity member Lucas A '27 bested Jacob A 8-0.  Going into the doubles the chargers were leading 3-2 and needed one more win.

The number 2 doubles team of Fin Matheson '23 and Lucas A '27 lost a close match 6-8 and that left the fate of the contest in the hands of the 1 doubles team of Sasa Bilanovic '25 and Misha Drunov '24. They were down 4-6 before their comeback began. They minimized errors and tied the game up at 6 all, then 7 all, then 8 all -- which forced a 10 point match tie break. Sasa and Misha showed great composure as they rattled off points in the tie-break to beat their opponents 10-4 and clinch the match for the Chargers.

The varsity team plays next against Clearwater Central Christian School on Thursday, February 24 at the Racquet Club.
