Records Broken at the Tampa Bay Track and Field Championships
by Coach Brown
At the Tampa Bay Track and Field Championships hosted by Berkeley Prep on April 5, the Varsity Track and Field Chargers competed against some of the best schools in the Bay Area. A very windy day made the afternoon competition tremendously challenging, but so many of our athletes rose to the occasion. Many athletes had strong performances across several events including top three finishes for multiple chargers as they competed at a high level. Most impressively, we saw two school records broken in both the boys 110 meter hurdles and javelin.
Theo Simon '22 had a 1st place finish in the 110 meter and 2nd place finish in the 300 meter hurdles.
Sonoma Kasica '24 was first place in Javelin.
Nikki Ayers '22 and Devyn Kropf '22 led the Girls 4x100 team to 2nd place.
Mylie McDonough '23 was 3rd place in the 1600 meters.
Luke Bernstein '22 was 3rd place in High Jump.
Kaja Dionne '24 had two fourth place finishes in the 200 and 400 meters.
Emerson Schreiner '23 was fourth place in Pole Vault.
Records broken/extended: Jeremy Barton '23 broke the Shorecrest boys javelin record with a throw of 47.44 m (155'8 ft). Theo Simon broke his own school record with 15.46 seconds in 110 hurdles.
As the team prepares for districts on April 21, many athletes are training hard with the expectation to advance into the postseason.
Come support all the track and field athletes at the District Meet on April 21 hosted at Shorecrest. Go Chargers!
