Service Week 2022
Shorecrest Upper School students were excited that Service Week 2022 once again allowed them to get out into communities - locally and nationally - and help in a hands-on fashion.
The entire 9th-12th grade Upper School student body participates annually in Service Week along with their teachers. During the 4-day learning experience, students immerse themselves in service projects with non-profits and educational institutions.
Some of the places the Chargers helped others included:
Benison Farm, Friends of Strays, Pinellas County beaches, The Kind Mouse, Pinellas Youth Farm, Reach St. Pete, RVR Horse Sanctuary, Seaside Seabird Sanctuary, Tampa Bay Watch, the Oglala Lakota Nation on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota, and more.

Mia Lee '24 and Alex Imensek '24 said it was impactful knowing their group collected 200 lbs of trash in 1.5 hours at a local beach. Annabella Rozin '24 was part of a small team who helped Shorecrest organize historical archives, and enjoyed viewing pictures of the School from the 1940s.
Mia Cardone '25 was at the Seaside Seabird Sanctuary. She said, "I enjoyed every day at the Sanctuary but I really loved how we were allowed to go inside some of the enclosures of the birds and even clean out the rehab enclosures. Overall, I just loved how we could be so close to so many different species of birds."
Reese Klngel '25, who helped pack food for local children who are food-insecure at The Kind Mouse, said, "I do not think there was just one moment that stands out to me because every day I felt like I was helping people. I am inspired to do more service on my free time and continue to return to Kind Mouse."
Ousman Joof '25 volunteered at Sunshine Center, a senior citizen center in St. Petersburg. "I helped seniors with technology, taking pictures, sending them, etc. This was a helpful experience for them because they can now operate their phones better than they could previously."
Ethan Creadon '25 thought one day of his service was lost due to bad weather, but in the end he was able to help in the Lower School. "A moment that stood out from this week was answering questions from the third graders about Upper School because it was fun to see how these questions might have lined up with what I thought about when I was a third grader and what might have been different."
