Keeping Healthy this Cold & Flu Season

by Donna Conroy, School Nurse
As the flu and respiratory illness season picks up, we encourage our community members to be vigilant about the standard health and hygiene guidelines that help prevent the spread of illnesses and keep everyone healthy and learning together at school. In addition, we encourage all community members to obtain a flu vaccine if eligible; immunization against illnesses is the best defense.

Health & Hygiene Guidelines:
  • Wash your hands with soap & water for at least 20 seconds after using the bathroom, before eating, blowing your nose, putting your hands in your mouth and touching your face
  • If you do not have access to soap & water use a hand sanitizer that is at least 60% alcohol.
  • Cough and or sneeze into your elbow-if use a tissue throw away after one use
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, mouth
  • Avoid contact with others who are sick
  • Get adequate sleep
  • Practice healthy eating
  • Be physically active
  • Clean surfaces regularly
  • No sharing of water bottles, food or other personal items
  • Keep children home if they are exhibiting any signs of illness
  • Follow the school policy that you must be fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication before returning to school and send a negative Covid test to the nurse prior to returning
