Grandparents & Special Friends Day [Video, Photos]

by Olivia Segalman, Associate Director of Advancement for Community Engagement and Events
Grandparents and Special Friends Day returned for its 38th year as a beloved Shorecrest tradition. Shorecrest welcomed over 600 Grandparents and Special Friends for an exceptional day full of activity with gorgeous weather! The students loved showing off their school to their grandparents and relished having their special friends with them.

The event began with coffee and pastries. A student performance with musical and theatrical performances from a variety of grade levels was led by Middle School Music Teacher Stephanie McCarthy on the Gaffney Green. Head of School, Nancy L. Spencer, and Chair of the Grandparents Council, EJ Mahoney, shared remarks and informed guests of the goals of the Grandparent Council at Shorecrest.

Following the performance, guests explored many of the wonderful inquiries that their loved ones are working on in their classrooms. New this year, Grandparents and Special Friends could eat lunch with students as well as take fun photos together at a photobooth.

Thank you to SCA's Grandparents and Special Friends Day committee chairs, Meghan Coyle and Lindsey Carroll for helping to plan this year's event, and all of the volunteers. The day was a great success due to their hard work and support!

Grandparents and Special Friends Day was proudly sponsored by State Farm. We greatly appreciate the support of our Community Sponsors!

The Grandparent Council encourages grandparents to get involved at Shorecrest and get to know each other. There are a variety of volunteer opportunities for grandparents at Shorecrest from volunteering in a library or garden, helping with art or athletic events and more. The Council also organizes several social and learning activities during the school year. Attendees enjoy getting to know fellow grandparents and learning more about Shorecrest.
