Red, White, and Blue Club Cooks Dinner for the Firefighters of Station #4
by Tate Mayo '19
The mission of Shorecrest Upper School’s Red, White and Blue Club is to “Serve those who serve us”. Sometimes, we get so caught up in our work and everyday lives, that we don't get to show the appreciation for the men and women serving our community.
Red, White and Blue Club members discovered two years ago that the firefighters of Station #4 on Fourth Street serve Shorecrest. Since then Chargers have been preparing dinner for them a couple times each year to show their appreciation. It can be a morally uplifting experience to prepare the food, and see it go to the hands of heroes in our community. Even though the club is limited in numbers this year compared to last year, they were still able to give plenty of food. They made many desserts and a big salad with lots of veggies and paired that with hot Mazzarro’s lasagnas.
The St. Petersburg Fire Chief, Jim Large, was at the station to thank the club. "I surely hope that we are able to carry out the tradition for many years to come. It was great to work together and then to see the firefighters enjoy what we did for them." said junior Tate Mayo.
