Two Seniors Earn Outstanding Youth Awards

by Raffi Darrow, Ebytes Editor
On March 2, Elizabeth Hodgson '18 and Luis Sarabia '18 were honored by the Rotary Club of St. Petersburg at the St. Pete Yacht Club. They were two of 15 Bay area students from eight public and private high schools recognized at the St. Petersburg Rotary's 79th Annual Outstanding Youth Awards. Students are honored on the basis of scholarship, character, and service.

Elizabeth has earned membership in National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta Honor Society, Rho Kappa Honor Society, National Art Honor Society and National Spanish Honor Society. She is an officer of the Shorecrest Pre-Med club, as well as a volunteer in John Hopkins All Chidlren's Hospital's Medical Explorers Program and at St. Anthony's Hospital. Elizabeth is also passionate about her volunteer work with The Kind Mouse food pantry, Tampa Bay Watch and Relay For Life.

Luis is an avid tennis player who earned State runner-up for doubles in tennis and competes as an individual in the USTA. He is a member of Mu Alpha Theta and was awarded the Guilaume Laitier French Award and the University of Virginia Book Award. His service hours include a lot of international travel, including building houses in Costa Rica and South Africa - and locally with Habitat for Humanity. He volunteers with children providing tennis lessons and enjoys working at Karma Juice bar and Eatery.

The Chargers, their mothers, and Shorecrest's Interact Service Club sponsor, Ms. Thorn, enjoyed a lunch in their honor.
