Honor Society Tapping Ceremony Moves to Fall

The Upper School Honor Society Tapping Ceremony is an annual tradition wherein members or faculty advisors of current honor societies inform new members of their invitation to join. Each honor society is connected to a national society outside of Shorecrest, and they set the guidelines for admissions to their own society. Shorecrest is proud to be able to host chapters of these societies, and the School is thrilled that many students so prominently represent Shorecrest as members in those chapters.

In the past, Tapping took place in the spring, with most students being inducted during their sophomore year. In the 2026-2027 school year, the ceremony was moved to the fall. This change allows student performance through the end of 10th grade to be taken into consideration before inducting them at the beginning of junior year. Because most students who would be eligible under the new timeline were already inducted last spring, this ceremony was relatively small. Students were inducted into Quill and Scroll, and the International Robotics Honor Society.

Cum Laude Society induction will also follow a new timeline. In the past, students were inducted into this prestigious national secondary school honor society in the spring during the Upper School Awards Ceremony. Moving forward, the top 10% of the senior class will be inducted during the Tapping Ceremony, with the next 10% inducted in the spring - at which time all members will be officially recognized together and presented with their pins. (Per the Society’s guidelines, a chapter may induct up to 20% of any graduating class.)

Students who were tapped demonstrate hard work and dedication. It is the result of investing countless hours planning, refining, studying, practicing and performing. It is also the result of being inspired by the many individuals tapped before them.
