Living Below the Line

by junior Caroline G
Junior Caroline G. is a member of Jane's Goodall's Roots & Shoots National Youth Leadership Council. At a recent meeting, she heard a fellow member mention the Live Below the Line movement, and decided to introduce the challenge in the Upper School:

"From April 27 - May 1, a few of my friends and I are eating and drinking on just $1.50 per day with thousands of others across the world in a global movement to help end extreme poverty. It's called Live Below the Line.

Since the movement began in 2010, over 25,000 people have taken the challenge, raising over $9 million for the world's leading anti-poverty organizations.

Now it's your turn.

$1.50 is the US equivalent of the extreme poverty line. Eating and drinking on so little gives a glimpse into the challenges faced by the 1.2 billion people who have no choice but to live below the line everyday for everything — that's food, medical care, transport, education - everything.

Find out more, and take the challenge at https://www.livebelowtheline.com/us/challenge. Search for Everyone for Change, click "full profile," and then join the team! If you know anyone who also wants to join the movement but doesn't go to Shorecrest, tell them to join the cause and make a team for their own school!

I hope that you'll join us in this exciting challenge and help to fight extreme poverty. I know living off of only $1.50 may seem impossible, but it is how over 1 billion people in the world live. Let's come together to face this global issue in a positive and interactive way."
