Concert For a Cause at Shorecrest
by Scott and Steven M, 8th Grade
For their eighth grade Passion Project, brothers Scott and Steven M decided to create a win-win situation for everyone. To raise money for two very special charities that are important to them, they are hosting a concert at Shorecrest!
On Friday, May 15, from 6pm - 8pm, a family-friendly concert will be held on the Shorecrest Softball Field. The Zombie Squirrels from Shorecrest Middle School, Gran Costa from St. Petersburg High, and Ember from the St. Petersburg Music Factory will perform. There will be snacks and drinks available for purchase. We suggest bringing a blanket to sit on the field.
Concert tickets are being sold after school and during lunch at the 7th / 8th grade pavilion until Thursday, May 14. Tickets cost $5 in advance and $7 at the show. All proceeds will be divided equally between the following two charities:
The Craft Family Trust Fund provides assistance to Upper School history teacher Dominique Craft and her month-old son, who is in need of lifelong care. All of us in the Shorecrest family know Ms.Craft and understand how much it would mean to her and her son to have our support, and some proceeds from the concert will help.
Second, the concert will benefit the charity Heifer International which was founded in 1944, and since its conception has helped 20.7 million families out of poverty and hunger. They provide those families with self-sufficient, long lasting food, hospitals, education, and fund businesses in third world countries; such as, Nigeria, Haiti, and Jamaica. A unique feature of Heifer International is that they will provide needy families with livestock that they can use for agriculture or provide them with food. Thus, this is how they get their name "Heifer" (a cow).
All faculty, students, families, and friends are invited to join in an evening of music and family fun. We look forward to seeing all of you and realize, in our fun, we are doing something important.
