MLK Dream Big Parade and Day of Service

by Raffi Darrow, Ebytes Editor
On Monday, January 15, more than 60 members of the Shorecrest community joined the greater St. Petersburg community to march in the MLK Dream Big Parade in downtown St. Pete. 2018 marked the school’s sixth consecutive year participating in the celebration.

This year’s group included representatives from all four schools, Experiential through Upper School, as well as faculty, staff, parents, grandparents, board members and friends. The Chargers strolled the parade route and handed out candy and postcards to the 45,000+ spectators lining the streets.

Over 30 Shorecrest community members also served two organizations on MLK Day - The Kind Mouse and CASA (Community Action Stops Abuse), ranging from JK students to staff and faculty. Students helped sort food donations in the Kind Mouse food pantry and helped make peace flags for distribution to the St. Pete community. Volunteer numbers more than doubled from last year’s MLK Day of Service!
