Shorecrest School

Welcome Back 2014-2015

Health & Guidance

I would like to extend a warm welcome to both new and returning Shorecrest families. My name is Marie Confident, one of the nurses who runs the clinic located in the Lower School.

Clinic
The clinic is open from 8am-3pm and has the following over the counter medications available to students: acetaminophen, ibuprofen, Benadryl (topical and oral), Tums, bacitracin and hydrocortisone cream. No medication is given to students without the written or verbal permission of the parent. Parents can bring a medication to school to be dispensed by the school nurse. It has to be in its original container with the name of the student, dosage, route and time of administration. A consent form needs to be signed for all medications besides the OTC medications provided by the clinic.

Allergies and epi pen
If your child has severe allergies requiring epi pen, I hope that I have already received the epi pen by now and if not I am sure that you have heard from me. Please bring the original box with your child’s name etc. A consent form needs to be signed.

Immunization and health physical forms
I would like to thank the parents who have already sent their child’s health physical and immunization forms by the the first day of school as required. If you have not, I urge you to call and schedule a doctor’s appointment ASAP. Please be advised that the deadline for receiving those required forms is Friday, August 29, after which date students will not be allowed to return to school until the forms are turned in. All new Kindergarten and 7th grade students are required to turn in both health physical and immunization forms. Returning students are required to  turn in a health physical form every year. Students 6th grade and up who plan on playing sports are required to return a sports physical form to the Athletic Center.

Illness
If your child is diagnosed with a contagious illness like strep throat or mono, I urge you to call the clinic or cc me when you email your student's teacher that he/she will be absent. In an effort to keep our community informed and safe, I do send letters home or email to inform parents about contagious illnesses.

Thank you very much for your cooperation and I am looking forward to a great and healthy school year. Until next time, remain healthy.
