Recently, we were fortunate enough to speak to Dr. Anna Baralt, the Director of Educational Technology at Shorecrest Preparatory School. While Dr. Baralt had a wealth of great information to share (you can check out our case study on Shorecrest here), one particular phrase she used really stuck with us: productivity tool.
Dr. Baralt was referring directly to how iPads do much more than merely allow students to read their eBooks—they help them be more productive. We thought this was an excellent perspective on digital learning and might even come in handy when pitching your eBook initiative to parents. To further illustrate Dr. Baralt’s point, here are five ways iPads can function as productivity tools in the classroom.
- Independence. Because iPads give students more options for how to approach an assignment, they can help to foster independence and choice. Dr. Baralt says that several parents have commented to her on how they see the ways in which iPad use in high school will translate to greater independence in college.
- Collaboration. By offering unique and innovative ways to work together with classmates, iPads help to teach students how to think outside the box when it comes to their own collaborative productivity. Finding different ways to work together based on the options available is a skill that will serve students well as they enter the job force.
- Organization. Thanks to the many organizational calendars and to-do list apps available on the iPad, students can be more on top of their assignments and extra curricular activities than ever.
- Efficiency. With all of their coursework stored on their iPad in a cloud system, students don’t have to worry about misplacing important assignments. With one less distraction, they’ll have more time to get down to the business of learning.
- Interaction. iPads offer numerous options for interactive approaches to learning so students can work to create their own learning experience. By not having to fit their education into a mold, students can find the interactive approach that works best for them.
We know this is just scratching the surface of how iPads are productivity tools for students in the classroom.
