Alumni Centennial Celebration Recap & Award

Alumni Featured

It was a weekend to remember as Shorecrest played host to a gathering of Alumni who returned to their beloved Chargers home for our centennial All-Alumni Weekend on October 20-22.

The festivities kicked off on Friday night with an Alumni tailgate and familiar faces coming together before the Homecoming Varsity Football game. To add a touch of nostalgia, attendees had the chance to witness a blast from the past as items from the 2011 time capsule, recently excavated from in front of the Athletic Center, were unveiled. The contents of the time capsule offered a glimpse into the past and sparked conversations filled with cherished memories.

During the Homecoming game Patrick Shanahan '15 was inducted into the Chargers Alumni Athletic Hall of Fame (pictured, thanks to Beth Reynolds '84). A sailing virtuoso, his journey from Bay Conference Scholar to Laser Full Rig National Champion in 2014 is nothing short of legendary. Patrick's leadership and skills were pivotal as he and teammate Nic Baird '15 (who went on to an All-American sailing career at Yale) clinched a 3rd place at the District Singlehanded Championship, propelling them to the National Singlehanded Championship for the Cressy Trophy. This marked the beginning of a series of triumphs, including a 5th place finish in Newport, RI, and securing 3rd and 4th positions in the National Fleet and Team Racing Championships, respectively. His collegiate tenure at Brown University further cemented his legacy, captaining the team to success and earning All-American Skipper honors. Patrick was celebrated as a sailor, scholar and leader whose contributions left an enduring impact on Shorecrest sailing.

The Chargers Alumni Association looks forward to honoring three more outstanding inductees at a later date.

Saturday saw Chargers coming together for an All-Class Reunion at Trophy Fish. This was a perfect opportunity to rekindle old friendships and create new connections. The gathering celebrated five-year milestone classes, which included those ending in '3 and '8. Thanks to Ryan Griffin '97, for graciously hosting this fantastic event.

One highlight of the weekend was the chance for our Alumni to witness the transformation of the Shorecrest campus. With recent physical changes, the school continues to evolve, but one thing remains constant – the Chargers spirit.

For those who couldn't make it to the All-Alumni Weekend, your absence was felt. You were missed, and we hope to see you at future alumni gatherings.

The centennial All-Alumni Weekend was an wonderful celebration of our school's rich history and the bright future that lies ahead. It's a reminder that once you're a Charger, you're always a Charger.
