In celebration of Jackie Robinson Day, the St. Pete Museum of History will host a special showing of “The First,” a Jackie Robinson documentary, on Friday, April 14 at 7pm.

The film was produced by Shorecrest Preparatory School faculty member Bennett Zamoff, in concert with The Jackie Robinson Project of George Washington University. It features two Shorecrest students as narrators.

“The First” is a documentary about the life and impact of Jackie Robinson, well-known as the baseball player who integrated the modern major leagues, but who is often overlooked as the catalyst of America’s Civil Rights movement.

“The First” explores Jackie Robinson’s career as a baseball player and his role in continuing the fight for equality once he retired from the game. “The First” is narrated by students and intended for students in grades 3 and older, as well as adults interested in American history and the Civil Rights movement.

The film will be shown in the Flight One Gallery at the St. Pete Museum of History. Doors open at 6pm, with the documentary beginning at 7pm. A bar and concessions will be available. Prior to the film, museum guests can view the Schrader’s Little Cooperstown exhibit. The exhibit is the largest collection of autographed baseballs in the world.

Admission is a suggested $5 donation to SPMOH.

The Museum has reserved a special section for Shorecrest families. Please register online here if you would like to attend.
