For 10 days during the month of June, the Lower School at Shorecrest took its first ever international trip to Spain. Led by third and fourth grade Spanish teacher Señora Emili Jaime-Allwood, the group of fourth graders and their mothers traveled to Madrid, Sevilla, and Toledo for an immersion in Spanish history, language and culture.
While exploring the cities, the Shorecrest contingent enjoyed a Spanish cooking class, learning the flamenco, horseback riding on the beach, kayaking in Sevilla, painting reproductions of famous works from Museo del Prado, and more.
According to Señora Jaime-Allwood, “It was an unforgettable experience for my students! They did an incredible job practicing their Spanish during the trip. I can’t wait to see their progress in fifth grade!”
Because of the success of the Lower School trip to Spain, Señora Jaime-Allwood is already working on another Lower School summer travel experience for 2018. She and fellow fourth grade teacher, Mrs. Sarah Palazzolo, will bring a group of students and parents to do a Science/Spanish hybrid educational trip to Costa Rica in June 2018.
Any interested fourth grade families are invited to attend an informational meeting on Thursday, September 21 at 6pm in Lower School Room D3. Please RSVP your attendance to [email protected].
