Exploring the Animal World in Kindergarten
Shorecrest Kindergarteners are becoming animal experts as they explore pets, farm animals, and native Florida wildlife. Their learning began with field experiences to DK Farms and Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, and the excitement will continue at an upcoming visit to ZooTampa.
Throughout the unit of study students have shown a special interest in dogs. This curiosity has led to discussions about how dogs can have important jobs. Kindergarteners are learning how working dogs help humans, why it’s important to let them stay focused on the job, and how caring for a working dog can be different from caring for a pet at home.
The unit has been brought to life through campus visitors, including Shorecrest parent and Veterinarian Dr. Diana Munoz, and a visit from Duke, a three-year-old bloodhound with the Pinellas County Sheriff’s K9 unit. Next week, students will have visits from therapy / support dogs.
