Volunteer with Book Buddies
Book Buddies is a group of parents that helps keep the Media Center in order. They meet a couple of times each month, choose a section of the library, and look for all the misshelved books. They also do periodic special projects to help the librarians, such as covering books, moving books or hanging artwork. You do not have to come every time, whatever works for your schedule through the year will make a difference. Young children welcome. Learn more at a get-to-know-you coffee / library open house right after drop off on Friday, Sept. 8 in the Student Activity Center (the room between the library and theatre). If you can’t make breakfast but want more information, please contact one of our committee chairs: Christina LeBlanc at [email protected]om or Sydney Legakis at [email protected].

International Day of Peace
Our work all year focuses on concepts of compassion, acceptance, and peace (and conflict as well). These are ideas that are an integral part of our social studies/social justice and equity curriculum. On September 18, we will celebrate International Day of Peace at our Town Meeting. Join us if you have the time in the morning.

Breakfast Book Club for Parents
Join Dominique Craft, Lisa Bianco, and Sherri Danyali for a Breakfast Book Club at 8am in the Student Activity Center on Wednesday, September 13. Throughout the year, we will explore a series of books focused around how children learn. Our first book for September 13 will be "Balanced and Barefoot: How Unrestricted Outdoor Play Makes for Strong, Confident, and Capable Children" by Angela J. Hanscom. In this provocative read, Hanscom explores a range of reactive behaviors and emotions that cause kids to struggle and offers practical ways to give kids the kinds of experiences that will help them thrive. Pick up a copy and join us on September 13 to discuss, debate, and, hopefully, gain a deeper understanding of modern childhood.

Concession Stand Seeks Cashiers - Paying Position
Do you love Shorecrest Athletics?
Enjoy talking with fellow Charger families?
Like tasty snacks and extra pocket change?

Consider working for SAGE in the Shorecrest Concession stand! The Concession stand is run by SAGE dining services and seeks additional workers to ensure concessions are open for all Shorecrest home sporting events. The opportunity is open to faculty and staff, students, parents, and friends of the school.

If you know someone who would be a good fit for this part time opportunity, please spread the word! All inquiries and applications may go to Lynn Hayes, Food Services Director, at [email protected].  To learn about the time commitment, see a list of home games here.

Carline
Use your car signal when your child is in the car and you are ready to exit. It helps the people who are directing carline traffic know that you are ready to go. Our nine year old patrols are just learning how to help students to their car. Please always make sure the patrol is away from your car before you move your car forward. Thank you for your patience. I promise carline will get better!

Dismissal
We encourage all parents and guardians to pick up children in carline. If you have to exit your car to pick up your child after school, please meet him or her at the picnic tables. You will need to be present before dismissal. Also, we must keep the north breezeway free of adults so children may exit safely. I will be there to supervise children and give my attention to their parting.

Boy Scouts
For many years we have partnered with parents who lead a Boy Scout Troop on campus. First through sixth grade boys can join Cub Scouts. They meet on the first Tuesday of the month, and the first meeting on Tuesday, September 5 from 3-4:30pm at the Lower School picnic tables at Shorecrest. Learn more here: https://www.shorecrestebytes.com/page/news-detail?pk=941681 (At this point in time we do not have a parent who is leading a Girl Scout Troop.)

Little League Fall Ball
Shorecrest partners with local little leagues including NELL and Fossil Park to support our young student athletes.

Northeast Little League fall registration is now open for baseball, softball and T-Ball! Tryouts are Aug 28 - Aug 30. The season begins Sept 18. All players will be assigned to a team. Tryouts are held so players of various skill levels are distributed evenly on teams. Fall Ball is a casual season, offering players an opportunity to learn the fundamentals of the game, meet new friends, develop confidence and have a great time! Register at: www.northeastLL.com.

Fossil Park Youth T-Ball, Girls Softball and Baseball are also open for registration through Sept. 1 at: http://fossilparkbaseball.org/site.

Sun Safety
It is recommended that parents put sunscreen on their children before the school day begins. You might want to consider insect repellant as well. We highly recommend children wear hats outside.
