Contributing Chargers: The Vetter Family

Shorecrest’s Mission is only made possible by the generosity of our parents, grandparents, alumni, and friends who support the school philanthropically or by effecting change locally, globally or right here at Shorecrest. We call these community members Contributing Chargers.
This week we would like to recognize Christie and David Vetter. Lower School parents of Victoria ’33, Christie and David Vetter have generously donated $25,000 to the Shorecrest Fund. Their gracious philanthropic investment came with a $100,000 challenge for this week’s Giving Day.
When asked why they are Contributing Chargers they each had their own unique reasons.
Why is Shorecrest important to you?
Victoria ’33: “I love my school and my teachers. I loved doing Poetry in the Park and going to see the Broadway shows at school like ‘The Little Mermaid’ and ‘Cinderella’.”
David: “I grew up in a family where education was passed down for generations in my mom’s family (my Grandmother was a college graduate in the mid-1920s and my mother was an educator.) My father was the first of his family to graduate from college. They taught me that the most important thing we can provide our children is a high quality education.”
Christie: “I moved almost every year growing up. It was so frustrating to go to each new school and see the new math or reading book that was being used. It left big holes in my education. I was put in remedial classes and my favorite book was “The Ugly Duckling.” I remember getting a placement test at one school that left me crying because I didn’t know the questions. I managed to catch up and become the first person in my family to go to and graduate from college, have a career in acting and stunts, and then be able to go back to law school later in my career. Shorecrest would have done wonders for me as one of my schools. Shorecrest provides a safe place to learn to fail - and grow from those mistakes - and to become a future leader that is completely prepared for college and beyond.”
How do you think your gift will impact current and future Shorecrest students?
Victoria: “It will help our school grow like our new playground, classrooms, and cafeteria. I hope other people will be kind and give.”
David: “Right now, in particular, adapting the educational model is critical. We are learning every day how to effectively educate in new ways. I believe there will be permanent changes in how some of the educational experience will be delivered; and I am proud to be a small part of helping Shorecrest adapt.”
Christie: “As an actress and stuntwoman, the arts are very important to me. Having my three-year-old performing and getting in front of people for Poetry in the Park was amazing. I remember substitute teaching at a school in Orlando where band was the only extracurricular activity. There is a rainbow of opportunities for enrichment at Shorecrest and I want that to continue to grow and expand. I loved taking Victoria dressed as Cinderella to go see ‘Cinderella’ at her own school. It was magical.”
The impact of our Contributing Chargers are felt every day. When we make a gift or volunteer our time to Shorecrest, we are really just giving back to each other.
