Shorecrest Competes in Battle of the Books

Shorecrest Middle School students participated in the Battle of the Books for local independent schools on May 1. The fast-paced tournament features multiple rounds of questions based on content knowledge about books that have received the Sunshine State Young Reader Awards. In the 6th-8th Grades Division Shorecrest placed 4th.

The Shorecrest Team Captain was Ajay A. ‘30 with team members Asha A. ‘30, Cali F. ‘30, Mana B. ‘30 and Ellie R. ‘31. At the tournament, the team was supported by their coaches Casey Giroud ‘02 and Ms. Supper, as well as their parents. 

“The competition was the culmination of a year of reading, practice and teamwork,” Mrs. Giroud shared. “The team was well-prepared and played hard throughout the competition.” 

Students rising into grades 5 - 7 interested in joining next year's team can contact Mrs. Giroud at [email protected]. During Battle of the Books Club meetings they have fun, play games related to the books, and compete against each other.
