Maëlle’s Service Project

Service News

Fourth graders in Ms. Horton’s class had an inquiry unit about sustainability last semester. Students were asked to select a related topic covered in class such as pollution, deforestation, hunger, plastic waste, etc. and create a project and prototype to present a possible solution to a real-world problem they wanted to address.

Maëlle G. used parts from some old furniture from home to make a cabinet the size of a Little Free Library. Rather than filling it with books, she used some of her piggy bank money to fill it with masks and small hand sanitizer bottles. She donated the box to a food pantry before winter break (Beacon of Hope in Clearwater) because patrons must be wearing a mask to enter the building.

She is hoping to continue to get donations to keep the cabinet outfitted for people in need.
