MS Forensics Competes

Middle School News

Forensics is the art of speech and debate. Shorecrest Middle School competes in a league focused on speech, giving students different categories to choose from as a platform for showcasing their public speaking skills. Judges look for expressive presentations while speakers are using notes and connecting with an audience.

There are 6 other schools involved in the same league, and the competition is tough. Grades 5-8 may participate, and Shorecrest is the only school in the league that has fifth graders on the team.

The club is sponsored by MS Theatre Teacher Ms. Nelson. Parents of club members are not permitted to observe the rounds, but are invited (and encouraged) to judge in categories that their children are not competing in.

Results from the last meet were:
  • Fifth grader Fiona G: 5th place Original Oratory on ADHD
  • Seventh grader Sofiya I: 4th place Declamation
  • Eighth graders Mya P and Brooke W: 3rd place Duo Drama
The next Forensic meet will be on Wednesday, November 15th at Berkeley Prep.
