Happy Thanksgiving Shorecrest Community

Head of School Letter

Michael Gillis, our Director of Advancement, reminds us that we begin with “Thank You.”

Thank You.

This past week our generous, committed, and future-focused Board of Trustees hosted a community forum on the future of Shorecrest and a few days later participated in our annual Trustee Day program. They had breakfast with our Trustee Scholars and Prep to Prep Scholars, visited classes of their choice for 1 ½ hours, and then met for 30 minutes to share observations.

During that discussion, Trustees agreed that every Shorecrest parent should have this opportunity. We are both proud of and impressed by what is happening at our school. The Trustees also expressed their thanks for the dedication and great work of the faculty and staff.

In the coming year, we will schedule Trustee Day-like opportunities for interested community members. Be on the lookout for those postings. The effort to organize an observation day for our Trustees is one way we thank them for their service. We will gladly offer a similar expression of thanks to groups of parents and guardians.

This is a time of year when the faculty and staff deserve a huge expression of appreciation and thanks from me and other community members. Their attention, concern, and dedication to the children who attend Shorecrest is remarkable.

Their willingness, and the depth in which they engage students in meaningful work and professional relationships, sets our teachers apart. The staff’s dedication to serving families and teachers results in an environment where teaching and learning is a priority. The concern for the lives of community members, the desire to help every member of the community experience growth and success, and the dedication to learn ways to make school a safe place to try new things and grow are characteristics of our faculty and staff. I thank them for their dedication to their students and to our community members.

Our volunteers, whether they be Board members, SCA, Booster, or Grade Reps make life better for all of us. Every volunteer hour matters. Thank you volunteers.

I am thankful to be in a community that embraces an Honor Code, Core Values, and the desire for children to have a comprehensive, high quality education. I am thankful that I am surrounded by people who have high expectations and are willing to make the sacrifices necessary to meet those expectations. I am thankful that people in the Shorecrest Community care about both the present and also the future of our school.

I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving.

Cheers!

Mike
