St. Petersburg Police Department visits First Grade

Lower School News

First Graders got a special treat on Monday when members of the St. Petersburg Police Department visited the school. Officers Brandon Bill and Greg Shone brought their amazing K9 partners, Stitch and Titan, to meet the children and talk about their role in the community. The officers shared their expertise, talked about their uniforms and tools, answered questions from our students, and did a demonstration in which Stitch showed off his super sniffer.

Did you know that K9 dogs can break down all sorts of smells? One of our first graders, Kingsley M, hid an old flip flop on the hills of the Lower School playground. Stitch had earlier gotten a whiff of that shoe. When Officer Bill instructed him to find it, Stitch went nose to the ground all over the area until he found the flip flop and flopped himself down right next to it.

Between the K9's and their super sense of smell, and the officers with their keen sense for following clues, people who are lost can be found, "bad guys" can be caught, and communities stay safe.

Thank you officers Bill and Shone for keeping our community safe and teaching us so much about being part of the police force.
